The ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu
Mothers’ Union is a pillar of faith, leadership, and service, embodying the
parable of the mustard seed. Established in 1961 alongside the original church,
this vibrant group has grown from small beginnings to become a cornerstone of
the church and community, exemplifying unity of purpose.
The Mothers Union's story is
enriched by a lineage of dedicated leaders who nurtured its growth: the late Florence
Nyakio Nduranu (1966), the late Priscilla Karira Maina (1969), the late Rahab
Huro Kariithi (1981), Lucy Mumbi Wagacha (1984), Winnie Wanjiru Munyinyi
(2000), the late Mary Njoki Munanau (2004), Jane Wanjiru Njoroge (2010),
Florence Wanjiru Kimani (2014), and the current chair, Jane Nduta Muchiri
(2021). Each leader has brought unique contributions, with Ms. Lucy Wagacha
playing a pivotal role during the establishment of the Diocese of Mt. Kenya
South, Mothers’ Mercy Home in Kianjogu. Her leadership saw the home built with
locally sourced materials, including the digging of its first pit latrine,
setting a foundation of sustainability.
The Mothers’ Union has made
significant investments to support its mission. They own income generating
projects like rental houses, containers, tents and chairs to ensure
sustainability for their members. As the host parish for the ACK Mothers’ Mercy
Home, they offer essential services to the vulnerable, reinforcing their
commitment to holistic care and nurturing.
Their participation in Mothers’
Union rallies has brought accolades in activities such as acting, folk songs,
choral verses, music, dance, and even catwalks, showcasing the union’s
creativity and vitality. Beyond competitions, they strengthen bonds by
fellowshipping in members’ homes, supporting women in need, aiding in weddings,
and visiting the sick, fostering a spirit of unity and purpose in their lives.
The Mothers’ Union is a vital
pillar not only for ACK St. Andrew's Ndenderu but also to the community at
large. As the church celebrates the consecration of its Mega Sanctuary and 25
years since its elevation to a parish, the Mothers’ Union stands as a beacon of
faith, proving that even the smallest seed, when nurtured with love and
dedication, can grow into a flourishing tree of service and inspiration.
